De-cluttering before packing to Move

April 15th, 2008

De-cluttering before packing is an important aspect of preparing to move - because it allows you to decide what you’ll need for the new house, what you’ll have room for, and what you won’t.

The most important thing to remember when de-cluttering is that you’ll be making room and getting rid of emotional baggage, whilst lowering your moving bills. An average four person house requires at least a seven tonne van to move, whilst a house that doesn’t de-clutter might need twice that!

De-cluttering can be considered essential or heartless - but either way, moving house is one of the best times to do a proper de-clutter - in fact sometimes, its the only ’spring clean’ that some people do. And while its always good to hang onto things of sentimental value, do you really need a newspaper from 1985 with an article about something that you needed to follow up within a week of the printing?

Get rid of any papers that you don’t need (though keep all important documentation) - consider donating any magazines, books, old toys or clothes in good condition to a local charity - or sell them on eBay or similar, to make some cash.

These donations and sales make mental and space sense - you’re not wasting perfectly good items you will probably never use again, and you could sell the really good condition items in a variety of places. You could hold a yard sale, or garage or even a car boot sale - or if you have enough time, auction them online, either via a recognized site, or through your own website, if you have the know how - getting rid of the things you don’t need is both very freeing and releasing, and can actually generate you some extra money for the move. You could even sell off surplus office, or craft supplies, if you have them spare, making your home office move leaner, and easier.

Mistakes Vacationers Make About Pictures Of Gulf Shores That Cost Them Their Vacation
We’ll need a link to some pictures linked to your website for this one

One of the great things about the internet is that you can find pictures of almost anything, including where you’re thinking about staying for your next vacation. Smart vacationers check out the locale long before they make reservations to be sure that the area is nice, the atmosphere friendly and the environment clean, beautiful and safe for their family. Unfortunately, in the wake of 2005’s tropical storms, this sensible precaution is costing many vacationers their first choice in location, says Terry Wedding, a property owner in the Gulf Shore area and custom vacation designer.

“There are so many pictures of gulf shores out there of the devastation from those hurricanes,” he explained, “that people don’t realize all the rebuilding that has gone on since those storms hit. In fact, now is one of the best times to plan a vacation in this area because all accommodations are brand new, the attractions are better than ever and the beach redesign is stunning.”

According to Wedding, who has followed the beach restoration and construction closely, most people don’t realize that a dramatic beach restoration was in the works long before the gulf shores were hit in 2005. “But if you ‘Google’ ‘pictures of gulf shores’” he points out, “you’d think that storm hit yesterday instead of more than 2 years ago.” And obviously, you’d think twice about planning your family vacation in the area.

Wedding says that in reality, pictures of gulf shores taken today show sugar-white sand beaches, stunning sunsets and beautiful, dolphin-spotted vistas. But they’re hard to find amid the tens of thousands of pictures of gulf shores depicting the devastation of 2005.

“The best way to avoid making a serious mistake in your vacation planning,” Wedding says, “is for people to be sure to check the dates on images before they change their plans.” He points out that owners of vacation rentals and entertainment in the area are offering “truly amazing” discount packages as they attempt to get the word out about the “new” gulf shores.

“People can also help by posting their own vacation gulf shore pictures online when they get home,” Wedding suggests. “The more we can expose the new, improved gulf shores to the online community, the sooner people will realize that it’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience for a vacation, whether you’re there to enjoy the pristine beaches, the incredible golfing or the many restaurants and shopping opportunities.”

These are the pictures of gulf shores that we can all enjoy today.

Domestic Violence - Never Right

December 1st, 2007

We have all heard the term “domestic violence” at some time or another.  What does it mean?  What are your rights if you are a victim of domestic violence?  What can happen if you are accused of domestic violence?  This article in intended as a brief overview of the rights of a victim of domestic violence and the criminal and civil ramifications for those found guilty of committing an act of domestic violence.

Essentially domestic violence means an act inflicted upon a person protected by the domestic violence by an adult.  The act sets forth 14 occurrences which constitute domestic violence.  The most common acts include: assault, criminal restraint, criminal mischief, stalking and harassment.  To be a “victim of domestic violence” , you must be 18 years of age or older and be either a spouse, former spouse or any other person who is a present or former household member.  Additionally it includes all persons who have a child or are expecting a child together and all persons who have had a dating relationship.

What happens once a person is arrested and a complaint has been issued for domestic violence.  Initially a municipal or superior court judge is contacted usually telephonically.  He or she will listen to the responding police officer and determine if a temporary restraining order shall be issued.  The restraining order may include things such as prohibiting the accused from contacting you in any manner and from coming to your home or place of business or not having any contact with the children.  There are a number of other provisions that the judge may impose.  A copy of the restraining order is than served upon the accused.   A hearing will than be scheduled shortly thereafter to determine whether a final restraining order shall be issued.  The hearing is before a family court judge.

In addition to any proceeding involving a restraining order, the accused will also be facing criminal or quasi criminal charges in either superior or municipal court.  It is here where a judge depending on the nature of the offense has the power to fine and incarcerate anyone found guilty of the underlying offense constituting the act of domestic violence.

Any person who is either a victim or accused in a domestic violence case would be well served retaining the service of an attorney knowledgeable in this field.
